چکیده

An automated and optimal design of CMOS low noise amplifier (LNA) via geometric programming has been presented. All the LNA design specifications are formulated as equality and inequality constrains and the design goal is formulated as an objective function. Some approximations and estimations on the design parameters are made in order to satisfy the formal requirement of the geometric programming. As a result, a LNA design problem is converted to a geometric programming (convex optimization) problem, which can be solved very efficiently, and a global optimal can be found. Trade-off analysis, sensitivity analysis, and robust design can easily be performed via geometric programming, and the design specification verification can also be easily solved as a feasibility problem in geometric programming. An example design of source inductively degenerated, common source, single-ended LNA is presented in this report. And the results calculated from geometric programming and simulations are compared. The comparisons show that the results are pretty close.

Optimal design of a CMOS op-amp via geometric programming

We describe a new method for determining component values and transistor dimensions for CMOS operational amplifiers (op-amps). We observe that a wide variety of design objectives and constraints have a special form, i.e., they are posynomial functions of the design variables. As a result, the amplifier design problem can be expressed as a special form of optimization problem called geometric pr...

Geometric Programming: a Tool for Cmos Op-amp Design

In this paper a new method for determining the component values and transistor dimensions for CMOS operational amplifiers (Op-Amps) is presented. As a wide variety of design objectives and constraints are Posynomial function of the design variables, the Optimization is done by Geometric Programming. As a consequence we can efficiently determine globally optimal trade-offs among competing perfor...

Design and operation of self-biased high-gain amplifier arrays for photon-counting sensors

Design and operation of high-gain (>1000), low-power (< 75 jtW), ultra low-noise amplifier arrays are presented. The amplifier array is operated in self-biased mode, such that all amplifiers are biased irrespective of threshold mismatches, and operate with low reset noise. The amplifiers are designed for possible incorporation as pixels of hybrid solid-state photon-counting sensor. The cell pit...

Concurrent Multiband Low-Noise Amplifiers—Theory, Design, and Applications

The concept of concurrent multiband low-noise-amplifiers (LNAs) is introduced. A systematic way to design concurrent multiband integrated LNAs in general is developed. Applications of concurrent multiband LNAs in concurrent multiband receivers together with receiver architecture are discussed. Experimental results of a dual-band LNA implemented in a 0.35m CMOS technology as a demonstration of t...
